The camshaft timing was set by first making a degree wheel, I found a Pickett Model #6360 protractor that worked out perfect, a brass plug was made and secured to the exact center of the degree wheel, the wheel is then inserted into the end of the crankshaft pulley.

First top dead center of cylinder number one is found with a dial indicator resting on the piston's top through the spark plug hole, the degree wheel is then set to zero. I then remove the dial indicator from the piston top and place it on number one cylinder intake valve tappet, with the indicator set to zero I can adjust the cam gear until I get the tappet to rise at 39 degrees before top dead center. This is checked several times just to be sure that any gear lash did not affect the readings. The document below is the original cam card information.
